TWitNY to go

I didn't get a chance to do the This Week in the New Yorker thingy before I left for the America South, and I didn't actually bring this week's New Yorker with me, but I'd imagine TWitNY (I'm going to cool it on the italicisation; forgive me) needs to be weekly or I'd lose whatever meta-journalistic standing I've earned.

Before I left I read the articles on the genocide (I'll go out on a limb and call it that, though the rest of the world seems to disagree) in Darfur and on the rollercoaster arms race. I'd read articles off and on about the situation in Sudan ever since it started making real news here, but I didn't really have a grasp on the whole tragic situation; the article does a good job of going into detail about what's been going on over there. The roller coaster article mentions Coney Island a bit, which I guess is inevitable.

So I'll have to recommend them both, and any other interesting stuff lurking in the bowels of the August 30th issue will forever remain unread.

Beep Beep Beep Beep, Yeah!

Cars are scary. They're big steel machines of doom. I do not trust that a car I operate won't just stop working as a drive it. I fear running over nails. I fear psycho people in lanes next to me losing their minds and making sharp turns of their steering wheels to crash into me...for no reason. No one (aside from Jeff) at all understands my fear of driving. Not just, "driving at night is a little creepy." We're talking nightmares. Every bad dream I have that I can remember involves me operating a vehicle careening out of control. Me driving a vehicle without brakes. Having to merge into traffic and not being able to maneuver the steering wheel. I drove a bit growing up (living in a Florida suburb, you kind of had to), but unlike the majority of my friends, I didn't have my own car. Some small updates

A. We're married (yay us!), and much love to all our friends, family, and especially parents who made our wedding so wonderful. There are various sites cropping up around the Internet with unauthorized paparazzi pictures, and I won't condone that sort of thing by linking to them (if you have uploaded any, I guess you can link to them in the comments to this post). When there are some sort of official pictures available, I'll let folks know. B. We're on our honeymoon (yay us!), and while we obviously have Internet access in the room, we're doing our best not to be huge nerds and we're getting out and enjoying St. Kitts. I've already uploaded some photos to Flickr that you can check out now , and as I take more, more will be uploaded to the same photoset. The photoset has been updated with a bunch more pictures, and I think Sheryl will be uploading some of her own to her Flickr account as well.
