A brief review of a film
34 went to see Syriana the other night. We were both freaked out by everyone talking about how complicated it is (Sheryl will be working on a Syriana: Advanced Prep book for Kaplan), but the experience wasn't overwhelmingly difficult. There are moments where you have to wait a few minutes to figure out what's going on, but that sort queued understanding is making everyone smarter, right? There were confusing bits to discuss after the showing, but they mainly had to do with minutia rather than plot elements.
The film itself was engrossing and moved along nicely for the two hours. None of the characters were very well fleshed out (and the attempts at backstory were essential throwaways) nor elicited much sympathy, but it's a movie about ideas and relationships, and it worked well at that.

That movie had a plot? What's with kid Anakin?
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays, Darth Vader.
ReplyDeleteMembers of my household (aka 791) saw Syriana on Thursday night and found it overly long, somewhat boring, and very confusing. 791 liked Wallace & Gromit much better.
